“I am getting bored” is a feedback to yourself that you are “not happy”

Right now, our life is nothing farther than a ‘To-do List’ instead of a ‘Bucket-List’. Organizations consider money as the criteria of ‘employee happiness’ and ‘optimum performance’. Parents consider gadgets as the source of ‘entertainment’ for modern infants. Schools consider results as the symptom of a ‘successful future’ for students. What’s lacking? None focuses on a basic phenomenon of human life—How to Tackle Boredom?

How to stop filling in the gaps of ‘waiting’ with ‘technological satisfactions’ that appear mundane after continual binge watching? What caused boredom in the first place—lack of gratitude or lack of creativity? I suppose, latter is the answer!

Undoubtedly, long hours of wait get boring; thus, everything is so fast-paced that we’ve stopped thinking and started feeling drained. Repeat cycle of everyday activity without adventure, fun, and innovation!

Listen, have you ever thought why we are humans not machines? What is the primary difference between the two? “Creativity” out of nothingness—humans have a tremendous power to create new out of the old, instead of creating copies of what’s already there. Newton wasn’t busy washing dishes or cutting wood when he contemplated over an apple falling down the tree and create a whole new law of gravity!

Amusingly, all those stress-relievers, mind-calming exercises are developed to keep us busy not creative.

Let’s change the dimensions of ‘boredom’ to mold it into something interesting—the artistic bend of mind.

Hobbies are interesting but they have been extracted out of our lives. I remember I had deep interest in DIYs and pet keeping until 8th grade. From then onward, I got stuck in the vicious cycle of a worrisome life. Only a reverie of the past is my greatest possession.

However, there is always a way where there is a strong will. Think like a child: ‘ENGAGE’ in life and create your ‘PERSONAL WORLD’ to get back to whenever you are free or waiting or bored. Here is a bucket list to kick start your creative side of life:

  1. Write a poetry using five sense based on your last five minutes spent alone in fresh air.
  2. Try out a DIY for at least 5 times to perfect the new ‘skill’. Have you tried making paper cranes yet?
  3. Start recording your pet’s mischief and create some funny memes out of it.
  4. Create a bucket list of places you wanted to explore within the city or country but haven’t. Start collecting pictures, create your snap book, and don’t plan anything. Go without plans, anytime and anywhere—that’s more interesting.
  5. Imagine every object is talking to you—what would it say to your inner soul?
  6. Try new forms of art—music, dance, painting, and whatever you ever thought you were incapable of achieving.
  7. Self-talk is the best talk. As your younger self what you should do right then and there? What if your younger self was bored, what would he/she do in that moment?
  8. Create your own vocabulary for everything you see around you—a chair can be a modified toilet seat—explore the funny aspect of your hidden self.
  9. Remember your childhood interests in Seven Wonder of the World, Astronomy,
  10. What’s your favorite movie? The Dark Knight? Let’s alter the ending—let’s play with the actions of the characters if it was you who were directing the movie.
  1. For employee happiness, organizations can task them to decorate their cabinets in their own interesting ways; or maybe you can create teams for interesting competitions such as photography of Nature, Décor of their Office Spaces, and so on. You know what: you’d see wonders in employee performances as well.

All in all, boredom is a state of mind. It is an action verb that can be replaced with another action verb ‘creativity’. I wouldn’t say ‘look at the brighter side of things’, that’s too lame now. Look at the creative side of life, you’d never be less happy!
